Anya - UK

Who am I?
Hi! My name's Anya and I'm from Newcastle, England. I moved to Brno to study teaching and be closer to my family who moved here a few years ago; I love it here!

What do you love?
Czech food! Czech beer! The Czech Repulic in general! I love little baby animals, happy music, singing and dancing (badly) and experimenting in the kitchen. I also adore the sunshine which is one of the reasons I'm not planning on moving back to the north of England any time soon!

You life slogan or credo?
Life is short. Smile while you still have teeth.

Why me?
I promise that my lessons are going to be good fun but that you'll also come away feeling that it was worth it and that you've learned something useful. I will be sure to get to know you all so that we can choose topics that you're interested in and can put into practice in everyday life.

Caitlin - USA

Who am I?
Hello :) My name is Caitlin and I am from the US. I was born in Rhode Island, grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, completed my university studies in Georgia near the Florida border, lived in Clearwater, Florida and have lived in Poland, Vietnam, and now the Czech. I went to school for Economics and International Business.

What do you love?
I love to travel – 15 countries and 22 states and my list of places “to-go” seems to be never ending. I love to learn about new cultures and try new foods. I also really enjoy watersports like kayaking and paddle boarding, and I also enjoy hiking, running, and yoga. I can never seem to sit still, but when I finally do I enjoy reading and enjoying a good cup of coffee.

You life slogan or credo?
“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” - Chinese Proverb

Why me?
I enjoy being silly and having fun. Life is too short to be serious all the time. I can definitely relate when it comes to learning a new language and have found that it is important to be comfortable with being uncomfortable, i.e. mistakes will happen but that is all a part of the learning process. I have a wide range of interests, so it is easy for me to discuss & talk on just about any topic. I want my students to look forward to their lessons and feel that they are a highlight to their day, not a chore or a tedious task. :)

Dislike?
I dislike that I wasn’t able to bring my doggo with me to the Czech. He is my adventure partner when I am home, so that is one of the largest downsides to travelling is not being able to bring him along.

Theodore - USA

Who am I?
My name is Theodore and I came to Europe from the United States three years ago. For most of that time I was living in Slovakia trying to trace the roots of my family's Slovak heritage. In college I studied musicology and classical guitar performance. While in the USA I was a public school teacher for some time and also a gigging musician.

What do you love?
I love dogs. Sometimes it makes my day just to go for a walk or jog and to get to pet a friendly, furry neighbor. I also love my hobbies: reading, exercising, and practicing music. I have been studying the guitar for most of my life but recently I have also been learning to play the violin and to sing more. There is definitely satisfaction to be had from making music on an instrument that you have some mastery of. But there is a whole other kind of satisfaction that comes from achievement during the beginning stages of learning an instrument.

You life slogan or credo?
"Leave things better than you found them."

Why me?
I am a pretty easy-going guy and I love to help others. I believe in making the world a better place by starting right in your own neighborhood. If that means helping my neighbors to speak better English then I can do just that! I have been a teacher for a long time and I have the patience to help students acquire new grammar and vocabulary and also to practice towards fluency. Learning Slovak and Czech myself has helped me to understand what English learners need in order to succeed.

You life slogan or credo?
“Only when a mosquito lands on your testicle will you find a non-violent solution to a problem.”

Why me?
I want to do a wide variety of lessons with different themes and topics. We can go through some esoteric lessons about history, linguistics, card and board games even role-playing games for the more adventurous. Whatever you want to talk about we can find a way to cover it.
